Figuering out the Problem
As an international college student, I often need to make dishes on my own. However, after trying several different apps for recipe references, I found it hard to catch up with the video tutorials, and sometimes the instructions are too vague. For instance, the tutorial does not specify the ingredients for the dish, which makes me hard to get the correct ingredients accordingly. Therefore, I start to question myself, am I the only one who encounter such problems? With the idea in mind, I created a survey and sent it out to other students on campus and hope to gather some responses. Meanwhile, I was also thinking about how can those problems be solved.

After interviewing three persons, I gradually form the common issues that shared by users who would like to use apps to aid their cookings. Even though there are numerous apps that are available to use, Few of them provide satisfying experience especially in controlling the variables of making a dish. Many users complain that they do not have an effective way to follow through either the video tutorials or the picture tutorials. Besides, two out of three interviewees reflected that there are not enough feedbacks on every recipe post. Last but not least, the willingness to cook is another point that 3 interviewees make in common. One said that he only wants to use the cooking app when he wants to cook, but how about when he does’t want to cook? Therefore, after gathering information about the current app/users’ feedbacks, it is time to form a solution.
